How to Actually Stand Up for Yourself:

A Guide to Resolving Conflict

Let’s cut to the chase: mental health is getting worse, especially with youth. And poor mental health is closely linked to substance use and suicide.

In all these issues, bullying appears to play a significant role. Despite existing anti-bullying programs and mental health awareness seminars, research indicates that these problems continue to rise.

In Justin’s keynote, he begins by teaching essential resilience tools that lay the groundwork for his solution: addressing bullying by teaching effective communication in a real-time conflict situation.

In “How to Actually Stand Up for Yourself: A Guide to Resolving Conflict”, Justin delivers an inspiring, fun, and confident speech through cheeky and compelling demonstrations that are easy to understand, backed by extensive research.

With a newfound perspective and energy, your audience will be able to face their issues head on with a positive impact on others as well. Ultimately, bettering the quality of life for the people in your community.

Key Objectives:

1. Build resilience

with 3 key lessons to prepare youth with the emotional fortitude required to bounce back from adversity, maintain composure, and inspire the courage to face difficult challenges.

2. Introduce the D.A.E.S. method,

Justin’s practical guide to addressing conflict in real time. This guide will equip youth with the skills to extend empathy and kindness while effectively expressing themselves during confrontations.

3. Empower students

with a sense of purpose by showing them that resolving their own conflicts not only improves their lives, but strengthens the well-being of those around them. In other words, inspire them to make a lasting impact on your communities.

Whether you’re looking for a large-audience experience or a more interactive format, Justin also offers workshops that dig deeper into these tools, or work just as well on their own as hands-on training for students, teams, parents, or professionals.

Justin’s workshops are built for schools, organizations, parents, and teams that want to go beyond awareness and give people the chance to practice real tools for navigating conflict in everyday life.

Whether you're working with students, peer mentors, educators, or youth-serving professionals, these sessions create space to slow things down, practice the skills, and build lasting confidence. They stand on their own or pair naturally with the keynote, depending on your audience, goals, and setting.

Each session is based on the D.A.E.S. method (Defuse, Ask, Express, Solve), a simple, four-step framework for addressing conflict in real time. The format is active, practical, and designed to be accessible to people of all ages and experience levels.

Workshop Options:

1. Defuse

Learn how to recognize emotional triggers and de-escalate tension before conflict spirals out of control.

2. Ask

Explore how to ask curiosity-driven questions that reduce defensiveness, build understanding, and open up dialogue.

3. Express

Practice communicating emotions honestly while staying respectful and constructive, even in moments of disagreement.

4. Solve

A full-session experience exploring the D.A.E.S. process in depth, showing how the four steps work together to resolve conflict from start to finish.

Workshops can be delivered individually or combined into a half- or full-day format. All sessions are available in English and French and can be adapted to different age groups, group sizes, and community needs.
